This summer is flying by. I blinked and suddenly it’s going to be September in a few days. I’ve always loved Autumn. The Fall. My favorite time of year. There’s something magical about that stretch between summer and winter. The temperatures, the colors, the feel in the air. I’ve always felt more alive in that time of year. It doesn’t last, but maybe that’s what makes it special.
Last winter, early 2026, I needed a break from my business. I’ve mentioned this in other posts, but I shut down my At‑Home Songwriting site and stepped back from teaching for about five months. I worked hot and heavy on my album, “Time Machine.” It felt good to disappear into the music for a while. I’m still working on it, but this summer I revved up At‑Home Songwriting again with more excitement and more clarity. I’m teaching on my own terms now. Building my business back without being on someone else’s payroll or timeline. It feels great.
I’m also very close to finishing Time Machine. I have two songs left to write and one left to mix and master. Once those are done, the album will be complete. I’ll post it when it’s finished. No big rollout. No hype cycle. Just finish it, post it, move on. Then I’ll start working on whatever creative songs show up next. Probably start another album. I feel like I’m building a catalog, not releases. I work a lot like Prince. Work fast, create, keep going. I’m not concerned with monetizing my music. The right people who are meant to hear it will hear it.
I find the most joy in writing songs and making music that I enjoy listening to. I probably listen to my songs more than anyone else. In the middle of all this writing, I still work a day job too. Some days it sucks my energy dry. I’m learning how to find balance and hopefully learning how to detach from other people’s wants and needs. My music feels good now. My business feels good now. Now I just need to figure out how to retire from the day job.
